This is a great question many ask. Your mind is filled with so many thoughts, your body is filled with so many emotions, and your soul seems filled with nothing but confusion. However, you’ve already begun.
The fact that you asked this question, watched videos online or social media, found this blog, and so many other things are all signs you have begun your journey to follow Jesus. Frankly, if you even so much as thought about God or Jesus, you have begun.
Nobody is beyond being loved and accepted by Jesus. However, because God gave humans free will, we must earn His grace and mercy. We do this by choosing God, through Jesus, every moment of every day. One we have chosen to focus on Jesus, we begin the renewing of our mind, body, and soul.
When our thoughts change, so does our behavior – positively and negatively. The same for following Jesus. When we redirect our thoughts to Him in every moment (good and bad), it is natural for our behavior to follow the path of Jesus. This is considered the fruit of our faith and why the Bible states the Word of God is not burdensom.
Why does everyone say to follow Jesus?
It’s simple. Jesus is the Word of God, in the flesh. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He is God – a part of the “trinity.” The “holy trinity” is a 3-part manifestation of God – YHWH (Yahweh) – “I AM.” Each part is God, Son of God, and the Holy Spirit. They are the same. As you read the scriptures (beginning to end), you will begin to see this revelation unfold.
Don’t worry about these details just yet. Just try to understand the basic concept right now.
What can I expect in my journey?
Everything. This is nothing short of absolute life changing. Expect everything. All the emotions, all the falling away of old behaviors, all the separation from those who encourage your current life, headaches, stomach aches, fear, joy, excitement… expect all the things no matter where you are right now.
You will be confused. You will get angry. Expect it and push through it.
We all battle internal demons. This is where all the negative energy you experience is coming from – I’m not exaggerating. It is a hard fought battle to internal and eternal peace, especially at first. Call on Jesus to guide you through it. Always invite the Holy Spirit to replace the demons you’re essentially purging.
I thought God was love…
He is! However, it is more like “tough love.” All the prosperity talk is different. It’s more motivational than Biblical, though it does have its place… at times.
What do I do now?
Grab that Holy Bible you found that fits your reading style and start reading Genesis until you get to Revelations. Read online for free with Bible Gateway. Bible Gateway also lets you choose different translations (versions) to help you find what’s easier for you to read.
Why are there so many versions?
There are many reasons. They do have some differences, but for the purposes of beginning your journey, you just need to find one that’s easy to read like a normal book.
If you’re more like me who wants an English translation that hasn’t been revised a lot, I recommend this version of the Septuagint for the Old Testament, and for the New Testament, the The Greek-English New Testament: Tyndale House, Cambridge Edition and English Standard Version (Hardcover) (English and Ancient Greek Edition).
Final Words
Whatever you do, don’t overthink this. It’s not scary. It’s truly not even confusing. It DEFINITELY is mind-opening. Expect a detox. Just continue reading in spite of everything. It will all make sense by the end of your reading. God speed, and don’t forget to join me on Facebook.
